Driven by our belief and passion and with the support of global partnerships, we are delivering the commercial development of Space-Based Solar Power to provide clean, scalable and affordable energy.
Our History
Space Solar – a company built on collaboration, fuelled by imagination.
The founders of Space Solar first established the Space Energy Initiative (SEI) to bring together the space and energy sectors and demonstrate to government the broad support for this ambitious concept. The SEI is now a collaboration which includes UK Government and over 80 organisations, with a shared belief in the potential and vision of Space-Based Solar Power. The SEI forms a world-class innovation and manufacturing powerhouse to develop and industrialise the technology.
Space Solar was established as a commercial entity for ownership and delivery of the Space-Based Solar power development programme.
Our Team
Martin Soltau
Co-CEO
Martin directed the recent UK Government study into the viability of Space-Based Solar Power. He is a successful business leader in the aerospace sector, with experience of delivering £100M+ programmes. He is a regular international speaker and a member of both the IAF and IAA international committees on Space Solar Power.
Sam Adlen
Co-CEO
Sam has been driving innovation in the space sector for 20 years. He has led or supported the development of a number of space businesses as Chief Strategy Officer at the Satellite Applications Catapult. He worked on a NASA Mars mission, at Finmeccanica and was lead technologist for Space at Innovate UK. Sam holds an MPhys and PhD from Oxford University and an MBA from Imperial College London.
David Homfray
CTO
David has designed and built complex energy systems for over 20 years. He was the UK Atomic Energy Authority’s Head of Engineering Realisation, an Engineer in Charge of JET, the world’s largest fusion experiment and part of the leadership team developing a £220M programme to commercialise fusion power.
Ian Cash
Chief Architect
Ian is Founder and Chief Engineer at IECL, and is a world-leading expert on Space-Based Solar Power. He is the designer of the CASSIOPeiA concept, and holds patents for its 360o steerable phased array architecture.
